A clean and beautiful tract of the civil war with the Cumberland River. Gorgeous views, eagle sightings, and reconstructed history explained via signage with art are along worn walkways that elicit a very eerie yet honorable image while traversing the different grounds the soldiers fought, lived, and left their legacy.

Very nice park. They have a good outline of the battlefield at the Visitor's Center, with some examples of the equipment used by troops of the time, as well as maps and timelines of the battle.

There are also some hiking trails between various parts of the park. Nothing too strenuous, but they do let you get a better grasp of the lay of the land. The huge number of trees cutting off sight lines makes it more difficult to understand some of the flow of the battle.

After looking around there, you can take a driving tour of the battlefield. You can read the brochure or use the National Park Service Tour app. Both have the same info, but the app let's you walk and look as it tells you about the stop. I liked being able to do that.

Love this place! People are so friendly and nice! There is two resident eagles Lizzy and Jack who love visitors and getting their picture taken. Ms. Shirley Knight is a wealth of information on the eagles, the park and just a real joy to talk with!

So much history at Fort Donelson. The view was beautiful. And the bald eagle I saw was breathtaking. A must see for anyone.

Finally, if you're lucky, you might see the pair of eagles that nest in the park. All in all, a really nice way to spend a day learning history and having fun doing it.

The U.S. Parks service had done an amazing job at creating a safe, clean, and healthy experience. With the right set of eyes or heart, it is very easy to see the actual battle with the descriptions and very intimate battle stories.

great place to jog, go for walk or have picnic. beautiful view. there is a nice bald eagle viewing area. there is also a hiking system that tap in here that leads thru LBL.
